To continuously optimize the graduate student source structure, improve the quality of talent selection, and further expand the academic influence of the school in electrical engineering and control science and engineering, the School of Electrical Engineering hosted the "2026 Online Academic Summer Camp for Outstanding Undergraduates" on July 5, 2026. Taking online cloud conferences as the carrier, this event built a high-end academic exchange platform for outstanding undergraduates from universities nationwide, fully showcasing the school’s disciplinary features, research strengths and education environment, and attracting more promising undergraduates with solid academic foundations and innovative potential to engage in research in electrical engineering and control science and engineering. Nearly 500 outstanding undergraduates from numerous universities across the country signed up for the summer camp.
Prof. Liu Zhigang, Vice Dean of the School of Electrical Engineering, together with Professor Huang Deqing, the school’s administrator for international education and principal person in charge of the Control Science and Engineering discipline, served as keynote speakers.
At the opening of the event, Prof. Liu extended a warm welcome to all participating students on behalf of the school. He delivered a systematic and in-depth introduction covering Southwest Jiaotong University’s 130 years of profound school-running history, as well as the over 70-year development context and spiritual heritage of the School of Electrical Engineering.
Focusing on the Control Science and Engineering discipline, Prof. Huang Deqing gave a concise and vivid presentation on its historical heritage, key current research directions (including intelligent control for rail transit, artificial intelligence algorithm applications, robotics technology, medical-engineering interdisciplinary research and other cutting-edge fields), featured research platforms, high-level supervisor teams, and research outcomes serving major national projects, helping students gain a deeper understanding of the strengths and characteristics of the school’s control discipline.
During the interactive session, camp participants from all over the country raised active questions covering a wide range of topics: selection and interdisciplinary integration of research directions, curriculum design, channels to participate in research projects, opportunities for international academic exchanges, the supervisor matching mechanism, master-doctor integrated programs and direct PhD admission tracks, regional and industrial distribution of employment, and campus living support during postgraduate studies. Prof. Liu and Prof. Huang provided detailed and targeted answers to every question, creating a lively atmosphere and fruitful academic interaction.
